How to boost profit and retain reputation
Manbat says that far too often, when a battery needs to be replaced during a repair people tend to source the cheapest like-for-like replacement in order to maximise profit. We’re sure Aftermarket readers are aware of the implications but in case you need to be reminded of the consequences…It is of course essential to maximise profit but it’s worth bearing in mind that the cost of a battery is not likely to be significant in the overall cost of repair. If a cheaper battery fails because of its poor quality or it had been allowed to discharge when not stored properly, the replacement cost – and more importantly – the damage to your reputation would wipe out any extra margin originally made.
So where do you start? Well, firstly check the OE specification because you don’t want to replace one incorrect battery for another! If you have a TecDoc CATALOG user licence you can get this information in seconds, otherwise a battery application guide is vital. The Numax battery spec and application guide and the Lucas battery catalogue can be downloaded from its website.
