ATA parts advisor scheme goes live with special offer for workshops

GARAGES that reckon their suppliers could brush up on their parts picking skills might want to let them know about the latest ATA scheme.

Parts advisor ATA has now been officially launched by the IMI. And Delphi has announced a special offer on ATA assessment for candidates.

The ATA scheme consists of five practical assessments and an on-line knowledge test. To take the test, candidates must have at least two years' experience in a parts-related role. The assessment covers:

  • Communication skills
  • Sales and marketing techniques
  • Identifying vehicles
  • Dealing with returned items
  • Picking parts correctly

Following the practical assessment, candidates must sit a 45-minute knowledge test covering legislation, organisation, stock levels, warranty details and more.

Former Top Technician finalist Rob Lewis (pictured top right), who landed a job as a trainer at Delphi after competing in the contest, said he was reducing the price of ATA parts advisor assessment at Delphi’s training HQ in Warwick from £250 to £150 until the 4th December.

The assessment dates currently available are 27th and 28th November along with the 1st to the 4th December.

“I also hope to run a service advisor ATA assessment early next year and I am looking for people to fill it. We are the only company running this assessment for independent garages,” claimed Rob.

The IMI is currently developing a Senior Parts Advisor ATA scheme which will require candidates to have at least five years experience.
