James Dillon launches comprehensive guide to CAN Bus diagnostics

TECHNICAL writer James Dillon has released a comprehensive guide to CAN Bus, to help technicians develop their understanding of diagnostics.

The book, called Practical CAN Diagnostics, contains information on test data, trouble-shooting and waveform analysis along with real-life case studies.

James, who writes for Aftermarket, said the book was designed to be easy-to-understand and answer questions such as:
  • How do you identify a CAN-enabled vehicle?
  • What fault would be indicated by a resistance of 0.6 ohms between CAN high and Can low, and what symptoms would be shown?
  • What voltage difference should you expect to see if the CAN is OK?
  • What should you do differently to accurately diagnose CAN vehicles?
  • How should the multi-meter or oscilloscope be setup to diagnose the high speed CAN?
  • Why do CAN vehicles have several different networks?
  • What is a CAN Gateway and how do you test it?
To find out more, go to www.techtopics.co.uk or see James’s article on CAN Bus in the next issue of Aftermarket, which is published on August 26th.
