Exide prepares to unveil improved offers for garages and factors

BATTERY company Exide says it is ready to throw new weight behind its offers to garages and motor factors following a "difficult" period of restructuring.

The company's sales and marketing director Andrew Bevington said a new range of batteries would be unveiled in September, complete with point-of-sale material and promotional offers.

The marketing drive follows a huge corporate restructuring programme as the company looked to adapt to a changing global economy and huge rises in the cost of oil and lead - the main raw materials in batteries.

Andrew said the company had faced "difficult" times during the early 2000s, adding that the company was now ready to move forward with increased vigour.

"Exide has been through some difficult times but any necessary restructuring work has been done," said Andrew, who said a new 14-strong sales team had been set up.

"The pressures we're facing are not just Exide issues. Rising fuel and raw material costs are something everyone will have to deal with as they filter down from manufacturer level.

"The changes we've made mean that we will continue to be a world-leading company," continued Andrew. "We think people will continue to need a high-quality product and in the future there'll be more direct representation from Exide in the market."
