Youngsters show the way for skilled trainees
A PAIR of young British apprentices have won medals at the WorldSkills international talent search in Japan.
Simon Noble (pictured right) took bronze in the autobody repair event while Jonathan Lloyd claimed third place in the car painting event.
The four-day event held every two years sees competitors from 49 nations compete in skills tests before audiences of more than 200,000.
Secretary of State John Denham said the competition showed the importance and pride people should take in top-level skills.
“This team is helping to break down the snobbery around skills training,” he said. “There is nothing second best about good skills-based careers.
"I hope that young people seeing what has been achieved in Japan will feel inspired to take up skills they can excel at professionally.”
John called on other youngsters to step forward and put their skills to the test at the next WorldSkills contest in Canada in 2009.
